I was never a dog person until I met Chris almost 13 years ago.  He was a lover of dachshunds, even though he did not have one of his own at the time.  Then we adopted Snapple almost 7 years ago. She’s a purebred Red Mini Dachshund.

And now I can not imagine not having mini dachshunds in my life forever.

She has quite the personality and loves to play.  And she is very particular about her toys.  There is but one rubber toy I can get at the pet store for her to play with.  I’ve tried others.  Even poured steak sauce on it to entice her.  No good.  The only other toy she will play with is a knotted up old sock.  But then what dog doesn’t love to play with old smelly socks!

And then a year ago we adopted Pretzel.  He’s a purebred Dapple Mini Dachshund.  I instantly fell in love with his eyes. I’m a sucker for blue yes, what can I say.  Hard to believe that he was the last of his litter to be adopted.

Back in March Snapple and Pretzel mated.  Twice.  Then three weeks ago, Snapple delivered six of the most adorable puppies you’ve ever seen!

All I can say is, Snapple and Pretzel make beautiful babies together!

A few people were surprised to hear that all the dapple mini dachshund puppies were quite healthy and there were no runts of the litter.  I’d like to think its because we don’t feed our dogs commercial dog food anymore.  Two years ago when I started on a health kick for my family, I decided to change what I fed Snapple as well.

Some years back my daughter had to say goodbye to her dog Buttercup because of a massive tumor in her stomach.  I do not want to go through that again.  So I found a book online, Dr. Becker’s Real Food for Healthy Dogs and Cats, that’s all about the ancestral diet of our beloved pets.  Yes, its a lot more work to make my own dog food.  But in the end it is so totally worth it.

So as you can see, I’ve been quite occupied lately taking care of these six oozing with cuteness mini dachshund puppies.  And the work is just now really beginning since they have opened their eyes, are learning to escape their home and we’ve begun weaning them.  And yes, even the puppies are being feed good for you organic food.

I have to say that its going to be difficult to say goodbye to these puppies once they go to their adopted homes.  Yes, they are for sale.  Though I have a sneaky suspicion that one or two may end up staying with us.

So if you don’t see me online much for the next several weeks, you’ll know that I am probably ankle deep in mini dachshunds trying not to tumble as I photograph all this cuteness!
