Back in October 2009 I had the opportunity to download, use and review muvee Reveal 7, a software program for making your own home movies.  You can read that review hereAnd Yes, I was compensated for that review with a downloaded copy of the full version.

In December muvee Reveal 8 was introduced.  I was able to upgrade to the current version for $19.95.  I have gotten lots of use out of version 7 and so I decided to upgrade.

I have to say I was a little disappointed with the upgrade as it appears there isn’t much to this new version.

There were not any new “styles” added to their collection as part of the new version.  Judging by the keywords people use to find my blog, this is something people are looking for.  As I stated in my previous review, you can go online and purchase additional “styles” for $14.95 but they have only added one new style since my last review.  And that style was for Christmas.

One significant new feature we are seeing in version 8 is the ability to trim music.  So if I wanted to use the opening notes from Duran’ Duran’s “Girls on Film” song with the sounds of the camera continuously shooting for a photo slideshow, I could.  Two features I would love to see is the ability to designate exactly where in a movie you would like the music to start playing (this feature can be found in Windows Movie Maker) and to be able to choose not to have the music repeat throughout your entire movie.  I have already passed my “Future Feature” Wish list onto the creators of this program.

Another feature I like in version 8, is the fact that I can add my logo to the movies I create.  If you are in the habit of producing How-To’s for YouTube, etc. than this is a nice way to get your brand out there.  You can place you logo anywhere on the screen you desire.

I would have to give this a 3 Star rating.  Overall I still like muvee Reveal 8 compared to Windows Movie Maker but would like to see more styles offered and some of the features on my wish list.  I would definitely recommend this program to someone just starting out with making their own movies and looking for a program that is easy to use.

In the next week or two I will be doing a review of Adobe Premier which is another video editing program. Stay tuned…

Before you go, I would like to know if this review was helpful to you?  And what would you like to know about Adobe Premier?
