Yesterday I had the pleasure of getting to know my son’s new classmates while attending their school field trip to The Living Desert in Palm Desert, California.  Fortunately, we had plenty of volunteers so each parent only had about 3 students in each group.  We were given a map of the zoo and were allowed to roam wherever the kids wanted.

To start the day off, we got to observe while animal keepers performed annual exams on two Mexican Wolves.  My group of kids also got a kick out of the massive G-Model Train setup.  I had to entice the kids with lunch to lure them away from the trains.  After lunch we got to see a few cheetahs napping in the shade and the giraffes grazing on the hillside.

I would have to say that the highlight for everyone was the 3,000 square foot butterfly garden.  Butterflies everywhere.  It was so much fun.  While the kids impatiently waited for butterflies to land of them, I patiently captured the butterflies with my camera.  This photo above was one of my favorites.

On the bus ride home I was hoping for the kids to be tired and quiet.  Quite the opposite.  Being the tech savvy mom that I am, my son and his friend were entertained while watching cartoons on my Blackberry.

Overall I took around 160 photographs.  I can’t wait till next week when my kids have Spring Break so that my son and I can sit down and create our own Storybook with Heritage Makers Studio
