I’ve been a little M.I.A. this past week on my blog and the Internet for that matter.  Been a tad busy.  Last weekend I celebrated my 40th birthday.  And today my daughter turns 17.  Happy Birthday Turi!

I’m also in the midst of preparing for our family vacation and the 3rd Annual World Wide Photo Walk.  Definitely going to need a lot of memory cards for this road trip.  We’re traveling to Utah for a week and have plans to visit Zion and Bryce Canyon.  I can hardly wait.  I have been itching to revisit Bryce Canyon ever since my hard drive crashed and I lost over 500 photos from our previous visit to this wonderful National Park.   And my photography skills have only improved since then so I imagine I will be taking more than 500 photos.

Learn from my sorrow.  Back.  Up. Your. Photos. Always!

And wouldn’t you know it, Scott Kelby had to go and schedule the 3rd Annual World Wide Photo Walk while we’re on vacation.  A fellow local photographer and I had talked about leading a Photo Walk this year through Joshua Tree National Park.  Guess we’ll have to table that until next year.

Have you ever participated in a Photo Walk?  Here’s a short video about this year’s Photo Walk:

A Photo Walk is a social photography event where photographers get together (usually in a historic or trendy section of town) to walk around, shoot photos, and generally have fun with other photographers.  And you don’t have to be a professional photographer.  All levels of photographers are welcomed.  Last year there were Photo Walks in over 900 cities in which 32,000 plus photographers participated.  There is still time to join.  Just click here to find a walk in your area.  And if you can’t find one, you can sign up to be a Leader of a Photo Walk in your city or town.  But you’ll have to hurry because the deadline to become a Photo Walk Leader is this Saturday, July 10th

Last year was my first time and it was a lot of fun.  You can read about last years Photo Walk here.  While participating in last years walk, I discovered that one of the other photographers had been one of my daughter’s teachers in elementary school.  We have gotten together a few times since to go hiking in Joshua Tree National Park.  If you would like to see more images from last years Photo Walk, you can view them here

Like I mentioned earlier, my family and I will be vacationing in Utah during this year’s photo walk.  I decided to look and see if I could find a Photo Walk near Bryce Canyon.  At first I considered joining the Photo Walk in St. George, Utah.  I hesitated because it was about 2 hours away from where we would be staying.  Good thing I waited because when I checked again, I found another Photo Walk had been established for Panguitch, Utah.  I got so excited!  Panguitch is so much closer than St. George.  I think it will be a lot of fun to join local photographers and get to know some place new while on vacation.  Isn’t that what being a tourist is all about?

So are ready to sign up for Scott Kelby’s 3rd Annual World Wide Photo Walk?  If you do decide to sign up, I would love for you to leave me a comment telling me which city you joined.  And I can’t wait to see all of your photos and perhaps share a few of my own.
