Selfies are all over social media sites like Instagram and Facebook.
So many that after a while, they all look boring. If you want to get noticed, you’ve got to get a little creative with your self portrait.
Here are some tips for creating artful selfies:
A well lit selfie will get more hearts and likes on social media than the dark ones.
You’ll want to avoid overhead and fluorescent lights (they are very unflattering). Take advantage of the golden hour (one hour before sunset) and turn yourself towards the sun.
Be mindful of what’s in the background of your selfie.
Enough of the in the bathroom selfies or dirty laundry scattered about in your bedroom. Get creative. Take a few minutes to draw a cool pic on the driveway with some chalk and use that as the background for your selfie. Or find something artsy in your surroundings to include in your background.
Avoid bad posture and a double chin when capturing your selfie.
Stand tall with your shoulders back and lift your head when composing your selfie. This will help you put your best face forward.
And every selfie can use some touching up.
Make sure to have a variety of apps on your phone for some post editing. Some of my favorites are Pixlr Express, Snapseed and HandyPhoto.
And one last tip…don’t overwhelm your audience with too many selfies. There should always be a point to your selfies. Like showing off a new haircut.
