Another year is in the photo album.  And its time to begin the next chapter, Happy 2013.  I started new year by gathering my family and venturing into Joshua Tree National Park for an afternoon hike, despite the chilly temps.  When the sun was out, I do believe we may have reached a high of 41 degrees.  Yes it has been a bit cold in the desert these past few weeks.  Though it’s still a welcome change from the 100+ temps we have throughout the late spring, summer and early fall.

I chose a fairly easy hike for our first adventure in Happy 2013, opting for the Boy Scout Trail.  To be honest, I am still in holiday mode and probably will be until next week.  While my daughter was teaching her little brother the ins and outs of rock scrambling, my husband rested on a nearby rock soaking up the warmth from the sun like a lizard.  And I, well what can I say, I was behind my camera capturing the moments as they happened as well as taking in the beautiful scenery.

My favorite moments from the hike: brother and sister getting along so well.  No fighting at all!  The alone moments I had with each of my children sharing stories and catching up.  And walking hand in hand with my husband as my kids raced each other on the path ahead of us.

But after about 90 minutes, my daughter could not take the cold anymore (living on her own she has forgotten my warnings about wearing layers when its freezing outside) so we ventured home.  Where I proceeded to edit my images from the afternoon while sipping a rather warm cup of hot cocoa (with a splash or two of Bailey’s Irish Crème).  Happy 2013 to me!

Now tell me, what wonderful moments have made you Happy in 2013?
