Before we had color photographs, there was the art of black and white films. I think one of the most well known photographers who specialized in black and white photography would be Ansel Adams. I, for one, have always admired his photographs from Yosemite National Park. Another favorite is his Rose and Driftwood photograph. The textures are a wonderful blend. You can almost reach out and touch the petals on the rose.
Another photographer I admired is John Kobal. He is best known for the thousands of images he took of Hollywood stars, including Audrey Hepburn. I think part of my Grandmother rubbed off on me because I have an interest in things she grew up with. I have a collection of black and white movies, including many of Audrey Hepburn’s classic films. Some other favorites are The Five Pennies starring Danny Kaye, A Christmas Carol , and the original Miracle on 34th Street . Soon my family will cringe as I break out these classics for the holidays. Deep down I know that someday they will come to cherish my tradition of watching The Classics during the holidays.
Enough about me. Do you have a favorite black and white photograph you would like to share? If so, then click on over to the home of black and white photography, Monochrome Weekly hosted by Aileni.
