In my quest to get out of the house more and meet new people, I signed up to join a local trekking/photo group on Meetup.com.  My first adventure with this group happened on Friday.  I should have done a little homework before RSVP’ing “Yes” to a 6.2 miles plus hike on a moderately strenuous for this trek to Lost Horse Mine within Joshua Tree National Park.  This. Trek. Kicked. My. Out of Shape. Tushi!

Our first stop along the trail was the mine, which is about half a mile uphill.  And with recent rains, the trail was washed out in some places and rather rocky.  The mine itself is fenced off to prevent explorers from falling down the mine shafts.

At one point, we were able to look out over Pleasant Valley.  Ryan’s Mountain was visible in the distance as well.

Still Standing

Then we continued down around Lost Horse Mountain and into the wash which took us back to our vehicles.  After a few miles in the wash I felt I couldn’t go on, but thanks to the encouragement of my fellow trekkers, I found the energy to keep walking.  And walking.  And walking.
