Earlier this week, Scott Kelby announced the date for this year’s World Wide Photo Walk. I would have posted this information sooner but as you may have noticed, I’ve been having some technical difficulties with my blog. I go away for a Mother Daughter Weekend and I come back to chaos!
Some of you may be wondering what the World Wide Photo Walk is all about. I could try to tell you about it. But why work so hard when Scott has already created a short video telling you about the Photo Walk.
And once again I have signed up to be a Walk Leader. I lead my first walk last year in downtown Joshua Tree. Had quite a few familiar faces join me as the sun rose over the desert as well as some new ones. This year I will be leading walkers down Mane Street in Pioneertown. Pioneertown was originally built in the 1940’s as a western movie set. Countless actors and actresses have walked the dirt road known as Mane Street over the years, including Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Gail Davis and Peggy Stewart. There have been over 50 movies and television shows filmed in Pioneertown throughout the years.
Another well location in the area is Pappy & Harriet’s. During the glory film days, this location was a cantina in many scenes. But in 1982 Pappy & Harriet opened Pioneertown Palace and was frequently visited by bikers as well as local families. Pappy past away in 1994 and the business was purchased by a family friend. It recently changed hands once again 2003 and it has been a thriving hub of good food and entertainment ever since. I thought this would be a great watering hole to quench the thirst of walkers after sunset and enjoy some entertainment.
Speaking of entertainment, Dave Gleason will be bringing his “twang” Country Music to P&H’s on October 13th. I have never herd him play before but he definitely has that old time country sound. And I happen to like country music so I am looking forward to hearing him play.
I’m really looking forward to this year’s event because I planned it for sunset. You just can’t beat the light of the setting sun on an old western movie set. I have been to Pioneertown many times to photograph clients and the light is always amazing. And October 13th should have a rather interesting sunset since the moon will be setting about half an hour after the sun.
The hard part will come a few weeks later when I have the dubious task of selecting the best image from all the walkers who submit their favorite image. No easy task to choose the person who will win a prize for being picked locally and have an opportunity to compete in the world wide competition. I don’t even those judges either.
I hope I have piqued your interest about the World Wide Photo Walk happening all over the world on October 13th. If you would like to join me in Pioneertown, here is the link to sign up. If you would like to search for a Photo Walk in your city, click here to begin your quest. I can’t wait to see all the amazing images captured from all around the world in October.
