Now that the holidays are upon us and my photography business starts to slow down for the year, I can turn my attention to some really fun projects. Yummy ones especially!
It’s been almost two years since I began phasing out the unhealthy foods consumed by my family and replacing them with more nutrient satisfying choices. For the most part my family has adapted well to the change (with the exception of my husband who can’t seem to give up his soda addiction) My son had an addiction of his own. Chocolate Milk! What can I say, I raised him well. I love chocolate milk too! But when I actually began reading the labels and trying to understand the list of ingredients, I had to make a tough decision to eliminate Nesquik and Hershey Syrup. My son was not a happy camper.
I’ve been on the lookout for healthy options to replace the chocolate milk mix my family and I love so much. I even belong to an organic food co-op (we get healthy organic food trucked in to our rural desert community once a month from Azure Standard, located in Oregon.) But had been unable to find an economical solution to our problem.
Until Friday night!
As I was wondering through the countless pins on Pinterest (I just love that time suck of a inspiration source) I stumbled up a Pin from Coryanne Ettiene, who was being featured on Pinterest’s 30 Days of Pinspiration. So I followed the links until I came upon the With Style & Grace blog. And lo and behold there’s a simple recipe for making milk chocolate syrup. FIVE ingredients total! Nothing artificial about this syrup. Quick look in the pantry told me I already had all the ingredients I needed. Now to share this discovery with my son!
Needless to say he was ecstatic!
And so we began making our first batch of simply divine homemade chocolate milk syrup. I don’t think there is any sweeter smell than chocolate. I haven’t checked my scale (in fact I don’t even own one anymore) but I believe I put on at least 10 pounds just standing over the stove whisking our magical creation. Oh well, it was totally worth it to see my son’s face light up with sheer pleasure as he took his first gulp of chocolate milk.
Guess I’m gonna have to start buying more milk!
