I don’t know about you, but this has been a busy weekend for photography.  I am sure many bloggers will be chatting about Halloween.  Not me at least not yet.  On this Monochrome Weekly Monday, I plan to share some photographs I took while in the Joshua Tree National Park on Friday.

I ventured into the Park on Friday to scope out some potential locations for some photo sessions I have booked for the month of November.  I could not have asked for a better day.  There were a few clouds, crisp temperatures and very little wind.  This picture above is from the location Cap Rock as you are driving out to Keys View.  Cap Rock is one of my favorite spots within the park.  There’s a 3 mile loop trail that is rated Easy.  And apparently this is also a good spot for beginning rock climbers.  I happened upon a few that were getting their ropes ready for a climb.

I have been coming to this national park for some 30 years or so.  But it wasn’t always a National Park.  For the longest time it was considered a National Monument and the long time residents myself included still refer to it as “The Monument”.  Actually it was 15 years ago Halloween day that “The Monument” officially became Joshua Tree National Park when the California Desert Protection Act was signed.  This act designated 7.8 million acres of land was considered wilderness, therefore changing the designation of monument to national park.  Death Valley was also now considered a national park.  And both parks became a part of the Mojave National Preserve.

I for one am glad this land has been preserved and saved from those who wanted to build an expressway through this area so that the residents here would have an easier way to get to the Coachella Valley.  And with those thoughts I will close this edition of Monochrome Weekly.  Be sure to click on over to see more Monochrome Weekly participants after you have left me some comment love.

Wishing you a picture perfect day!
