Father’s Day Weekend is here. How are you celebrating Father’s Day?
My son and I created a special gift a few weeks ago (which you can view here) and I can’t wait to see my husband as he opens this gift. And my daughter the teenager started a tradition a few years ago of making “Breakfast in Bed” for the parents on their respective holidays.
You will find me with camera in hand throughout the day, documenting and capturing all the events of this Father’s Day.
And since many of you may be doing the same, I thought I would share some ideas with you and help you capture the special moments in your family.
1. Follow Dad around all day as he interacts with the kids. What’s his expression when he opens his gifts? What special things are the kids doing to make this day special for Dad?
2. This idea is perfect for Dad’s who are a little camera shy. Have Dad and the kids play a fun game together or bring out a special toy. Dad will be so engaged in playing that he won’t have time to think about the camera focused on him. In my family, the best way to achieve this is to bring out the honkin’ big Nerf guns we have and let Father and Son battle it out.
3. Many families have big get togethers on Father’s Day. And this is the perfect time to capture a “Generations” portrait. My Father passed away several years ago so this isn’t possible for me. But I do have a “Generations” portrait of my grandmother, my mother, me and my daughter from 1994. This photograph is a cherished treasure since my Grandmother passed away later that year. So capture the moments while you can.
4. Along the lines of a “Generations” portrait is to photograph Grandpa holding the grandkids’ hands. Or laying one on top of the other, comparing the size of the hand.
5. Does Dad have a favorite photo of his Father from when he was a kid? If so, try doing a re-enactment portrait just like it. You could then frame the two of them together.
Well I wish you a most wonderful Father’s Day Weekend and i hope these tips will come in handy for you this year.
Celebrate Life and Capture It!
