Vacationitis!
Have you ever had Vacationitis? All I can think about is vacation right now. Last night I was up till 2 in the morning writing blog posts for next week while I’m out of town on vacation. And what did I write about? Yep you guessed it. Vacation! More specifically about Photographing your vacation. Because you know I will be photographing my vacation.
I also wrote a blog post about photographing our national parks. You know why? Because that’s where I am going on vacation next week. It’s not enough that I live within shouting distant (literally) of one of our 392 national parks, I have to pack up my family in a vehicle that will likely overheat on us and go visit two national parks in another state. I need a vacation! Badly!
Do you know how long it’s been since I last went on a vacation?
10 years! That is entirely too long to not get away from my daily life. Sadly, it has been 10 years since I packed up my then 7 year old daughter and our puppy “Buttercup” into my Dodge Neon and went camping for a week at Dinky Creek near Fresno, California. That was a great vacation. I got to drive a jet ski for the first time in my life. Ahh, the freedom of speed on the open waters of Shaver Lake. I also lost my left thumbnail when my foot slipped as I was climbing up from the creek and jammed my hand into a boulder. Did I mention that I was wearing acrylic nails at the time. Ouch! it was fun none the less.
But this time will be different. You know why?
Because my family has grown by two in those 10 years. In fact, it was shortly after that last vacation that I meet Chris online. And we have a son now who will be turning 7 next month. So this will be our first “family” vacation.
What could be better?
9 days of family time. No television. No computer or Internet access (help I’m already suffering from withdrawls :) Just me, the kids and Chris in beautiful Canyon Country. Wait! Can’t forget about Snapple, our Dachshund. A cabin out in the middle of practically nowhere. No city lights. No city traffic. Just clean air and the occasional monsoon.
Do you think I have Vacationitis? Leave me your diagnosis in the comments and what would you prescribe. I will check out your prognosis before I leave on vacation. Gotta go load up the truck now. Later!
